529m² of flat and pitched roof refurbished with Garland UK systems, following ongoing leaks and water ingress, together with new insulation, dome rooflights, box guttering and downpipes.
Absolute Waterproofing was appointed to deliver a comprehensive roof refurbishment at Worcester Crematorium following ongoing leaks, water ingress damage and deterioration of the existing roof coverings.
The brief called for a long-term waterproofing solution across the flat and pitched roof areas. Improving the building's weather resistance, maintaining its appearance and minimising disruption to day-to-day operations were central requirements.
Provide a robust roofing solution that addresses the reported water ingress and supports the long-term protection of the building.
The early-stage photographs record the roof areas before installation of the replacement systems. They show rooflight openings, existing roof surfaces and perimeter areas within the working environment.

BeforeThe requirement extended beyond replacing the main roof coverings. Insulation, rooflights, guttering and downpipes formed part of the same package, allowing the refurbishment to address the roof surfaces and the elements that bring daylight into the building and manage rainwater.
Following a detailed roof survey, a tailored refurbishment package was developed using Garland UK roofing systems. Different systems were selected for the flat and pitched roof areas, creating a coordinated solution across a total of 529m².
Works commenced with removal of the existing roof coverings back to the structural deck where required. This prepared the relevant roof areas for the replacement build-up. The strip-out and preparation formed the starting point for the insulation and roofing installation.
New insulation was installed as part of the refurbishment to improve thermal performance. The insulation and replacement roof coverings formed an integrated roof build-up, bringing the thermal upgrade and waterproofing works together within the same package.
Garland StressPly Signature Built-Up Roofing (BUR) was installed across 329m² of flat roof areas. The system provided the replacement waterproof covering to these sections. The flat roof scope also included the interfaces with rooflights, perimeters and adjoining roof elements, where the waterproof covering meets changes in the roof geometry.
A further 200m² of pitched roofing received Garland's R-Mer Loc Metal Roofing System. This renewed the weatherproof finish to the pitched sections, providing a durable roofing surface and enhancing the appearance of these areas alongside the flat roof works.
Using complementary roofing systems allowed the solution to respond to the different roof forms. The complete refurbishment included both the main roof surfaces and the associated components: dome rooflights, box guttering and downpipes.
CompletedNew dome rooflights were installed as part of the refurbishment, renewing these roof elements alongside the surrounding coverings. Their junctions with the refurbished flat roofing formed part of the waterproofing scope, bringing the rooflights and roof finish together as one installation.
New aluminium box guttering was installed to collect runoff from the relevant roof areas. Including the guttering in the refurbishment addressed rainwater collection alongside the replacement coverings, rather than treating the roof surface and drainage as separate works.
New downpipes completed the rainwater goods package, carrying collected water from the guttering through the building's rainwater drainage route. Together, the replacement box gutters and downpipes renewed the roof's water collection and discharge components.
Roof coverings, insulation, dome rooflights, box guttering and downpipes were brought together within a single refurbishment package.
CompletedThe completed refurbishment has provided Worcester Crematorium with a modern, robust roofing solution designed to deliver long-term waterproofing performance. The works addressed the deteriorated coverings and existing water ingress issues whilst renewing the appearance of the roof.
Combining StressPly Signature BUR with the R-Mer Loc Metal Roofing System provided a solution suited to each roof type. New insulation, dome rooflights, aluminium box guttering and downpipes extended the improvements to the wider roof package.
