A two layer bituminous membrane overlay across 1,000 square metres of school roof, every rooflight replaced, and a new PV system installed on completion of the waterproofing.
Phoenix Academy in Walsall needed its flat roofs brought back to a guaranteed condition without a full strip, and wanted to add solar PV at the same time. The survey confirmed the existing covering and insulation were dry and sound, so a two layer bituminous overlay was specified.
The existing roof was prepared and overlaid with two new layers of membrane across 1,000 square metres, encapsulating the roof and its details. All of the rooflights were replaced with non-fragile units during the same programme.
Once the waterproofing was complete and inspected, a new PV system was installed on a mounting system agreed with the membrane manufacturer, so the roof guarantee was protected and the array sat on a roof with 20 years in front of it.
