The building and what we found

Windmill Primary School in the Beaconsfield area of Telford is a 1970s school with flat roofs over every block and the ponding, failed felt and rotten woodwool deck that go with it. The survey found the existing waterproofing beyond overlay, so the specification was a full strip to the deck.

The result

What was delivered

Across 1,950 square metres the existing system was stripped, the woodwool deck was replaced where it had failed, and a new Bauder Total Roofing System was installed with a tapered insulation scheme that put falls into a roof that had never had any. Every rooflight was replaced with a non-fragile unit, windows to the raised blocks were replaced, and the existing cladding roofs were altered to suit the new build-up.

The work was programmed around the school year with the school in occupation for part of it, with the contracts manager agreeing site rules, deliveries and scaffold movements with the school in advance.
