A refurbishment of ten building roofs across a live city centre campus, phased around teaching and access constraints, with the waterproofing designed building by building.
Coventry University appointed Absolute Waterproofing to refurbish ten building roofs across its city centre campus. Each roof was surveyed and cored separately, because the buildings ranged from 1960s teaching blocks to a domed lecture building, and the specification was written roof by roof rather than as one campus wide system.
BeforeThe campus stayed fully in use throughout. Access routes, scaffold positions, deliveries and skips were planned with the estates team around teaching and exam periods, and the programme was phased so that no roof was open overnight. Built-up bituminous systems were used across the flat roofs, with new rooflights, outlets and mansafe lines installed as each roof was completed.
The domed roof, which had been carrying moss and a failed covering for years, was stripped and re-waterproofed with a system that could follow the curve. The whole programme was delivered as principal contractor with a dedicated contracts manager and weekly inspections.
