Single ply roofing contractors for new build and refurbishment

Single ply membranes give a lightweight, fast-track and flame-free flat roof for new construction and refurbishment alike. We install EPDM, PVC and TPO systems in thicknesses from 1.1mm to over 2mm, homogeneous or reinforced, hot air welded at every joint to form one continuous waterproof layer.

What is included

Every single ply roof, specified and guaranteed

EPDM, PVC and TPO

Three membrane chemistries, each with a place. PVC is the workhorse of commercial refurbishment and mechanically fixed warm roofs. TPO gives a plasticiser-free membrane with a long service life and a light reflective surface. EPDM suits large simple roofs and adhered systems. We specify by roof, not by habit.

Flame-free installation

Every seam is hot air welded and the membrane is fixed with adhesives or fasteners, so there is no torch on the roof. For schools, hospitals, timber framed buildings and sites with a hot works ban, that is the whole reason single ply gets chosen, and it lets us work while the building stays in use.

Warm roof build-ups and green roofs

Combined with rigid insulation and thermal break fasteners, a single ply system eliminates cold bridging and gives high thermal performance at low weight. The same membranes carry extensive green roofs, blue roof attenuation and PV arrays, with root resistant grades where they are needed.

Lead effect and profiled detailing

Standing seam profiles, eaves and verge trims and lead or copper effect finishes let a single ply roof match an existing building or lift a new one. On conservation sites, lead effect rolls give the appearance of a traditional lead roof without the theft risk or the cost.

Questions

Asked and answered

Is single ply suitable for a refurbishment, or only new build?

Both. On refurbishment the existing covering is either stripped or, where the survey allows, kept as a substrate under a separation layer and a new mechanically fixed system. Because the membrane is light, it rarely adds a structural problem, and the flame-free installation means the building carries on underneath.

How long does single ply last, and what is the guarantee?

Manufacturer guarantees run from 15 to 25 years depending on the membrane and the build-up, and the systems we install are BBA certified with life expectancies beyond the guarantee period. Because we install as approved contractors, the manufacturer inspects and signs off the roof before the guarantee is issued.

Can PV panels go on a single ply roof?

Yes, and it is one of the most common requests we get. The mounting system is agreed with the membrane manufacturer so the guarantee is protected, penetrations are avoided wherever possible, and the layout is set out with the roof falls and access routes in mind. Phoenix Academy in Walsall is a recent example.

What is the difference between mechanically fixed and adhered?

A mechanically fixed system is screwed through the insulation into the deck at the laps and works on almost any substrate, including profiled metal. An adhered system is bonded to the insulation and gives a flatter, quieter roof with no visible fixings. The survey, the deck and the wind uplift calculation decide which.

Do you offer a free survey for single ply projects?

Yes. A surveyor inspects the roof, checks the deck and any existing insulation, and produces a written report with photographs, options and budget costs. For new build we work from your drawings and produce the specification, U-value calculation and wind load design with the manufacturer.
